BankSouth Wins Heartbeat Award for Community Commitment

Oct 22, 2026 Greensboro , Lake Oconee , News
Greene County Chamber of Commerce Awards Event

BankSouth is honored to receive the Heartbeat Award from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, recognizing businesses that go above and beyond in supporting local charities and strengthening the community.

The award celebrates BankSouth’s longstanding commitment to giving back through charitable contributions, community partnerships, and the generosity of its employees. As BankSouth celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2026, the recognition is especially meaningful, reflecting eight decades of relationships and investment in the communities it serves.

Celebrating 80 Years by Giving Back

One of BankSouth’s most meaningful initiatives in 2026 has been its $80-for-80 Anniversary Impact Challenge, launched to celebrate the bank’s 80th anniversary. Every employee received $80 with a simple challenge: use it to make a positive difference in their community.

Employees embraced the opportunity, supporting local food ministries, youth programs, special needs organizations, animal rescues, medical research, and families in need. Some combined their contributions to make an even greater impact.

The initiative reflects a belief that has guided BankSouth for generations: meaningful community involvement begins with people who care.

That same commitment is reflected in BankSouth’s partnership with ATLAS Ministry, which included support for the organization’s new facility near Greene County Elementary School. The BankSouth Assembly Center, known as “The Nest,” provides a dedicated gathering space for educational programs, camps, and activities that strengthen local children and families.

Investing in the Community’s Well-Being

Throughout 2026, BankSouth has continued to support organizations addressing critical needs in healthcare, public safety, and education.

Through the Georgia HEART Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program, BankSouth contributed $100,000 to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, supporting access to quality healthcare close to home. The bank also supported the Greene County Public Safety Foundation through Georgia’s LESS Crime Act, helping provide equipment and resources for local law enforcement.

BankSouth’s commitment to young people is equally important. Employees volunteered with the Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club to provide financial literacy education, participated in the annual Bank to School Bash to help equip Greene County students with school supplies, and celebrated graduating seniors through the BankSouth Foundation Citizenship Award Scholarships.

Beyond financial contributions, BankSouth employees regularly share their time and expertise to help protect and educate their neighbors. Through its Fraudcast digital education series, the bank partnered with Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison to raise awareness about financial scams and fraud prevention. Employees also met directly with community organizations and senior groups to provide practical education on recognizing fraud and protecting personal finances.

These efforts represent just a portion of BankSouth’s ongoing support for local nonprofits, schools, healthcare organizations, civic groups, and charitable initiatives.

A Commitment That Goes Beyond Banking

For BankSouth, community involvement is about more than financial contributions. It’s about showing up, building relationships, and working alongside the organizations and individuals who make Greene County a special place to call home.

The Heartbeat Award is a meaningful recognition of that shared commitment, and BankSouth is grateful to the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, its community partners, and the employees who continue to make a difference.

As BankSouth celebrates 80 years of serving its communities, the mission remains unchanged: to be more than a bank, and to make a positive impact on the people and places it serves.
