GREENSBORO – Last month BankSouth donated computers and laptops to the Greene County Habitat for Humanity as part of an ongoing partnership between the community bank and non-profit organization. The donation directly supports the local Habitat for Humanity’s efforts in providing families affordable access to educational technology.

Unique to the non-profit’s national organization, the Greene County Habitat for Humanity provides each of their Habitat families a computer to place in their newly built homes. Each computer is installed with educational software that grow with the needs of the school-aged children in the home.

“Many times, the cost of the Internet service is considered a luxury to our families. Installing software on a home computer allows them to still access needed tutorials without the added expense to the family,” said Lori Abramson, Greene County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director.

BankSouth has provided more than 60 computers and laptops to the local non-profit within the last year. This donation also helps provide laptops for their high school graduates pursuing postsecondary education.

“We are happy to recycle these computers we’re no longer using and pass them on to an organization that is directly making a great difference in our community,” said Jack Bush, BankSouth Information Technology Director. “The world is advancing more and more digitally, and we want all children to have access to the different ways of learning,” he continued.

The Greene County Habitat for Humanity has provided homes for more than 60 families in Greene County since its inception, resulting in improved education and economics for families and the community. BankSouth is a proud sponsor of the organization and supports its mission in building safe and affordable homes and communities.
