Fraud Watch August 2026: Don’t Fall for BankSouth Impersonators

Aug 31, 2026 Fraud Prevention
spoof call scams

As BankSouth prepares for our upcoming system upgrade, we want you to be prepared not just for the changes ahead, but for scammers who may try to take advantage of them.

Fraudsters often use periods of change to make their messages seem more believable. You may receive a call, text, or email that appears to be from BankSouth, claiming that you need to “verify” your account, update your information, or take immediate action because of the upgrade.

If you receive a suspicious call or message claiming to be from BankSouth, do not click any links or provide any information. Hang up and call us directly at (706) 453-2265.

How to Spot a BankSouth Impersonator

Bank impersonators may send official-looking text messages, phone calls, or emails to fool you into handing over your personal information, like account numbers, verification codes, and more. If you receive an unexpected message that appears to be from BankSouth, DO NOT take action or go to any links.

How to Spot an Impersonator:

  • You’re not expecting a message from BankSouth.
  • Sensitive information is requested, like account numbers, passwords, verification codes.
  • You’re pressured to act quickly.
  • You’re asked to verify a transaction you didn’t make.
  • The message includes suspicious links, attachments, and spelling and grammar errors.

How to Protect Yourself From Impersonators:

  • Never engage with an impersonator. If they text, ignore the message. If they call, hang up. If they email, don’t click any links, and delete the message.
  • Do not make any rushed decisions.
  • Never share any sensitive information.
  • Verify websites and email addresses before providing information.
  • Use only trusted contact methods to verify any claim.
