A Shared Commitment to People, Service, and Community

As of October 1, 2025, State Bank of Cochran, First Laurens Bank, and Community Bank of Johnson County are now divisions of BankSouth.

You’ll still see the same familiar faces, with the same commitment to service and community.

This acquisition is not about changing who we are but about building something even stronger together. We’re gaining a partner with over 100 years of trusted service.

Together, we’re bringing expanded resources, subject matter expertise, and new opportunities while maintaining the personal, local service both banks are known for.

“This acquisition expands our footprint into a strong, nearby market that complements the areas we already serve.”
— Harold Reynolds, CEO, BankSouth

More Convenience. Same Commitment.

Key Points:

Your Questions, Answered.

State Bank of Cochran is a locally owned community bank with a legacy dating back to 1921. With four branches operating under the names State Bank of Cochran, First Laurens Bank (Dexter and Dublin), and Community Bank of Johnson County (Wrightsville), they are the largest bank in Bleckley County.

  • State Bank of Cochran (1 branch in Cochran)
  • First Laurens Bank (1 branch in Dexter, 1 branch in Dublin)
  • Community Bank of Johnson County (1 branch in Wrightsville)
  • Their strong performance, customer loyalty, and community focus
  • Strategic locations that enhance our Central Georgia footprint
  • Shared values around relationship banking and community service
  • Subject matter expertise, particularly in agriculture lending

There are no immediate changes to your account. A very small number of duplicate account numbers exist between the two banks, so we anticipate little to no impact to customers.

No. You can continue using your current checks and debit card. If a rare account number conflict arises in the future, we will provide replacements at no cost to you.

Initially, you should continue banking at your current branch. Over time, we plan to expand cross-branch servicing between both BankSouth and State Bank of Cochran branches.

One Team, One Goal: Serving You

This partnership allows both BankSouth and BankSouth Mortgage to grow with purpose — bringing together teams who care about relationships, financial strength, and the well-being of our communities.

From Cochran to Dublin, from Atlanta to Savannah, from Watkinsville to Greensboro and Lake Oconee, our mission remains the same: delivering safe, easy, and personal banking experiences — now with even more support behind them.

“This is the right move for our teams, our customers, and the future of community banking in the markets we proudly serve.”
— Jackie Bowen, President, State Bank of Cochran
